Weird Investigations FAQ
What's so unique about Weird Investigations?
There are many companies and groups that allow members of the public to take part in a 'paranormal event' at famously haunted locations and so, you're probably wondering what it is that sets Weird Investigations apart from these others. Many of these companies use methods that have no place on a rational investigation and provide their guests with misleading information.
When you take part on a Weird investigation you wont just be released into the dark to get scared and spooked by every little thing that happens. On a Weird Investigation we let you explore all approaches to paranormal research - from the absurd, to the rational.
Our investigators are all involved in rational research into paranormal phenomena in their spare time and will share their knowledge and experience with you. It's easy to let people get an adrenaline rush whilst looking for ghosts, and people who have taken part on past Weird Investigations did have fun, but they also learnt a lot about how what seems to be paranormal, probably isn't.
1. Why are we holding these Investigations?
A myth has built up around what constitutes paranormal research and investigations. We want to dispel this myth and show what really happens during serious rational investigations.
2. Why don't you have a medium - How can you run a paranormal investigation without one?
We do not employ the services of sensitive's or mediums as their abilities have not been proven. It is felt therefore by the organisers that mediums would influence and prime our guests. This is against our core ethics.
3. Why is there a maximum of ten guests allowed?
The main reason is that we feel this is the largest manageable sized group we could have on an investigation. Any more than this and the investigation would be difficult to control and may cause noise pollution during the investigation. (Especially when the main group splits into smaller ones).
4. Why do you charge?
In an ideal world we would do this for free. However each location charges for rental of its venue and we have to be insured. These costs alone account for 95% of our charges. (Assumes 80% attendance for each location). Any profit made is diverted into the Weird 10 conference with the aim of keeping ticket prices low for the delegates.
5. Is this a fright night/paranormal tourism experience.
No. This is a chance to take part in a rational paranormal investigation.
6. What do I get for my money?
You get entry to the location as part of the Weird Investigation Team. Before any investigation is carried out there is an induction session which will set out the do and don'ts of the evening. During the investigation you will be expected to function as a trainee investigator and will be asked to carry out certain activities. (There is no danger to yourself in these activities). A full report will be produced after the evening and sent to you detailing the findings of the evening.
7. Will I get scared or frightened?
The honest answer is that everyone sometimes feels uneasy when investigating an alleged haunted building, especially when it is dark and very quiet. No investigator has ever been harmed and if you do feel uneasy it is important to tell one of the lead investigators immediately. Never run or panic. One of the lead investigators will stay with you or escort you from the investigation until the feeling passes.
8. What happens during the evening?
A plan has been created for each investigation which will be shared with you during the induction session at the start of the evening. This plan ensures a structure is in place and that you are not left to wander around with no real purpose.
